The Long awaited fencing shoe: Nike Ballestra
The Nike Air Ballestra in 2010 Black / Gray / White Color Scheme

At long last the Nike Air Ballestra is making its way back to the retail fencing market.  Originally launched in 2008 as part of Nike’s entrance into the Olympic footwear market, the Ballestra was only available to the athletes at the Beijing Games and to a limited run of 500 pair of the shoes.

After 2008, the NCAA colleges that had contracts with Nike began to receive their own versions of the Nike Air Ballestra (in a few school colors.)

Since 2008, Fencing.Net has been collecting information on the marketability of the Nike fencing shoes.  The passion of the fencing community for this product has shined through and we can now say that the Ballestras are on their way!

For the 2010 run we settled on a Black / White / Gray color that looks great in any fencing venue.  The shoes are priced at $175 – down from the original $220 that Nike was charging at the original launch – which makes them a great value when you consider how much some other name brand shoes cost.

We have our color sample of the Ballestra which will be on display at the 2010 US Fencing Summer Nationals, so stop by the booth to take a look.  Our run of the Ballestras are set to arrive mid-July and then we’ll be packing and shipping them first come first shipped to all of those who place pre orders.  Pre-orders are open as of June 30, 2010.  We will hold back some stock in order to accommodate those who may need to exchange sizes after ordering.

Most likely the 6.5 but maybe the 6 if you have really narrow feet.

Tim – The largest size that we have coming in is a US 14. For larger you’ll need to try something else as Nike didn’t make molds for any larger sizes.
