Rebecca WardRebecca Ward has been nominated for the 2007 Sportswoman of the Year award by the Women’s Sports Foundation. Ward is one of 8 athletes nominated for the award, with voting concluding on August 31st and the winner to be announced in October.

Ward earned a nomination from the Women’s Sports Foundation due to her strong results in international fencing over the past two seasons. In 2006 she won the world championship in women’s sabre, defeating teammate and reigning Olympic gold medalist Mariel Zagunis.

She also became the first fencer in history to own the World Championship title at the Cadet, Junior, and Senior levels at the same time.

Becca has continued winning key matches and is currently ranked #1 in the world heading into the 2007 World Championships.
