The US Men’s Foil Team of Alex Massialas, Gerek Meinhardt, Zain Shaito, and David Willette defeated Italy 45-35 for the Gold Medal in the 2010 Junior Team World Championship for men’s foil.

The US won all of their matches by healthy margins starting with a 45-32 victory of Italy. The US then defeated Hungary 45-35 and crushed Germany 45-28 in the semi-finals to match up against Italy in the final bout.

Italy, fencing without Tommaso Lari, edged out France 45-44 in the semi-finals. Tami received a black card after the individual event after his loss to El Sayed (EGY) in the gold medal bout.

Earlier in the day, Italy beat Brazil 45-16, Canada 45-21, and Great Britain 45-29.

In women’s sabre, the US team of Nicole Glon, Celina Merza, Lian Osier, and Samantha Roberts lost in their first match against Spain 45-44. Entering the last bout the US was down 40-37 and Osier was able to tie the score at 44 before Sandra Marcos (ESP) scored the final point.

Spain fell to the Ukraine in the quarterfinals and placed 8th.
