PRAGUE – Canada's top women's epee fencer, Sherraine MacKay of Brooks, Alta., placed ninth following a third round loss 15-10 to 6' 2" Magdalena Piekarska from Poland at the Prague d'Or World Cup today.

{mosimage}MacKay realized too late, the secret of success. "She was so tall that all my attacks where coming up short.  I guess I'll have to grow another 12 inches or learn how to get her blade out of the way," she laughed as she returned to her training base in Budapest.  "Now my coach has a new goal as well.  He has to teach an old dog some new tricks."
Li Zhang of China captured the gold medal; Danuta Dmowska from Polond won silver while both China's Li Na and Hungary's Hajnalka Toth took home bronze.

Earily in the day, MacKay blazed to victories over Elisabeth Spilman from Belgium 15-8 and then Portugal's Ana Miranda 15-7.
Ainsley Switzer from Toronto, Ont., placed 58th after a 12-8 defeat to Jeanne Christou of Greece.
